APPLYING PARTAY! PREMIUM SCREEN PAINTS
Below is a description of what you will need and some considerations (BEFORE YOU START)
and how to properly apply PARTAY! Premium Screen Paints (APPLYING).
We advise that you follow the application instructions for best results.
BEFORE YOU START
ITEMS YOU WILL NEED - ROLL-ON
¼ inch nap roller (typically 9" long). Rollers made of material such as MICROLON can be used for nice results. Foam rollers provide the finest finish, however if you have no experience with a foam roller, we point you back to the 1/4 nap roller. You can use 3/8” nap or thicker rollers, but it may leave a bit more texture and impact the overall gain as noted in the specifications.
An optional Paint Trey that matches or is larger than the width of your roller.
An optional roll stick to attach to your roller (the stick/handle from most light-weight household brooms will work) to make rolling a large surface easier.
We recommend using a painter’s drop cloth or an old sheet underneath your projection surface to avoid any mishaps on your flooring.
Some wet/dry rags or paper towels handy for any messes. Cleans up easily.
Black or dark grey paint or primer to prepare the surface for the coating
SPRAYING:
NOTE: Due to the differences in types of HVLP guns utilized for spraying, it is difficult to translate gun settings from one to another. This coating has been engineered to be “Spray Ready” and works very much along the line of the ‘Flow Coat’ approach.
We DO NOT RECOMMEND any spray approach outside of HVLP or LVHP. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to us.
WHETHER ROLLING OR SPRAYING, DO NOT THIN THE FORMULAS! THEY HAVE BEEN OPTIMIZED FOR BOTH.
Considerations:
WE RECOMMEND YOU USE A SMOOTH SURFACE - If you have an existing screen that you intend to re-coat, be mindful that heavy texture (heavy orange peel effect or extreme bumpiness will impact your results. Mild texture isn’t a problem, but if your screen has been painted over multiple times or has heavy texture, you may want to consider replacing the material prior to coating.
PRIMING - Priming is a necessity. Especially, if you will be coating on a surface with high absorbency, meaning it will “suck” up the paint. Such surfaces include, but are not limited to:
Fabrics/cloth materials
Wood/Plywood
Drywall
We highly recommend purchasing an industry standard PVC-based screen surface (inexpensive motorized/fixed frame/etc. white screen). PARTAY! will ALWAYS recommend priming your existing surface to provide a solid, uniform substrate color).
APPLYING
STIR the formula very, very well, including the sides and bottom. 30 seconds stirring time will serve you well and LIGHTLY STIR AGAIN BEFORE EACH COAT. You can filter the mixture using a paint filter, if desired.
APPLICATION:
How Much to Apply
For 90-100 inch screens, we recommend you pour dinner plate sized amount of paint onto one side (approximately 1 cup onto the screen) (disregard if using a paint trey or spraying); If you are coating a screen smaller than 90 inches, adjust by 1/8 cup for every 5 inch decrease.
For 105 to 120 inch screens, we recommend you pour a dinner plate sized amount of paint onto one side (approximately 1 and a quarter cup of material on the screen)(disregard if using a paint trey or spraying).
APPLICATION STEPS:
Carefully, move the formula around the screen to ensure the screen is fully covered with the formula.
Once you have the material spread across the screen, starting on either side of your screen, apply pressure rolling either left to right or bottom to top of the screen in one full line, moving to the next line beside where your previous roll ended. Repeat across the screen until you have a good, even distribution of the formula on the screen.
To finish, starting on either side of your screen, repeat the above, but half over each previous roll, allowing only the weight of the roller (no pressure) to go across and back or up and down to smooth out any potential roll lines.
Repeat these steps for your second coat
You may use a fan to assist in drying time or even move the screen to another location, such as out in the sun to dry, but allow each coat to sit for 2-3 minutes before doing so. This time allows the coating to self-level for a more refined finish.
Remember to allow each coat to completely dry to the touch before applying the next. COAT DRY TIME IS LESS THAN 30 Minutes at 70 degrees F.. You can shorten your dry time using a fan or heat.
CLEANING:
Spills can be cleaned up easily with just a wet cloth.
